Journey is quite a trip, no pun intended! He is a big, strong, cool cat with what used to be a sadly woebegone expression that has, since his rescue, evolved into a "been there, done that, prefer this" expression.
Journey was a stray, lost or abandoned, living out of garbage cans in the frigid ice and snow of Colsville, suffering from malnutrition, frost bite, parasites, etc. A kind-hearted lady started feeding him under her deck but was not able to offer him a home. The local shelters would have euthanized him, so she reached out and someone directed her to Friends for Life. Our problem, getting him all the way across the state to warmth and safety! Again, a wonderful group of people stepped in and each took a leg of his journey to get him to us. It takes a village!
Once here, Journey had to be isolated while he was nursed back to health, but despite being understandably wary, he took it all like a champ. And a gentleman. It was a happy, happy day when we were able to introduce him fully into a warm and safe foster home.
This is where his journey turned from heartwrenching to amusing as we watched him adapt. Everything Journey does is deliberate and dignified. He moves slowly, like a lion king. He pauses to give the city slicker cats a chance to move out of the plush cat bed. And they do. He is not aggressive, or vocal, or physical. No growling or hissing or swatting. But they move. Unlike the other cats, he doesn't rush to the door to greet us. Rather, he waits until we are settled and then slowly and deliberately rises out of the plush cat bed and makes his regal way to us for his share of chin rubs. At meal time, he doesn't run meowing to the bowl, but strolls deliberately to it, and though he may share head space in the bowl, he finds it unnecessary to wait in line. J
ourney did get caught flopping over and flirting with one of our gentle girls, but when he saw us looking, quickly regained his poise. But we know it happened.
Journey lives in harmony with other cats, but may do just as well as an only cat. He shares coveted bed space with his small, quiet foster dog, but has not been around big or loud dogs, or kids. He would need to go to a cat savvy family because he still has boundaries he needs us to respect. If you know cat language, all will be well. If you don't, he's likely to offend you, but he will be polite about it.
Journey is such a fascinating character with his sad/funny face, his body builder physique, his regal demeanor and the cutest (shhhh!) little white spot on the very tip of his tail. He has no interest in facing the big bad world outdoors. He survived it, but miserably. He is seeking a loving, forever indoor only home with a family that understands and appreciates cats in all their splendor!!
Journey is neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, has been tested for feline leukemia and feline AIDS, and has been treated for fleas, ear mites, and worms. His adoption fee is $120.
To adopt Journey, please contact Karen at karen.sorsdal@comcast.net or 360-333-7041 and tell her you are interested in Laura's cat Journey.
